Sunset Caravan Park News
Edition 3.
By Arch Armstrong.
Hello and welcome to the April 2004 Newsletter. Trust you all had a great Easter and the year has so far been good to you. Hope you made it up to Karumba to take in some of the fresh clean air and a bit of relaxation. I know I did and as usual the fish were biting, the birds were still in town and it was great to meet some old friends and make some new ones. The weather was excellent and the beer is still cold at the Sunset Tavern up the road. Entertainers Pete and Jude were in town and entertained at our Friday meal nights. What a nice fun and friendly couple they are with a great range of old and new songs to entertain us with.
The Karumba fishing competition was on once again and was a huge success. Bigger and better than any previous year. Karumba was buzzing. Some 426 persons entered the competition and lots of great prizes were won. Thanks to Dave and his staff from the Sunset Tavern for their efforts in staging the competition. Congratulations to all the winners. See you again next year. For those that could not make it come on up. June, July, August, September and October are great months to visit with excellent weather. October is probably the best month of the year. Great weather and plenty of fish to catch. We have all the fishing gear. Hooks, sinkers, lures, rods, reels and bait can all be bought in town and boats are available for hire. You can also go on a fishing tour with Kerry D or Kathryn M fishing charters. And believe me, you will catch fish. Or you can bring your own boat or just fish off the shore. At the Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park we have a range of accommodation to suit all tastes. Powered and un-powered van sites, tent sites and air conditioned cabins are available and we are right next to the beach, boat ramp and the tavern. At our mini mart you can get ice and bait, hats, shirts, groceries, drinks, bread, milk and a host of other supplies. If you are not into fishing then there are plenty of other things to do in and around Karumba. For instance you can take a tour with Layback Tours and check out the history of the area. Jim will give you running commentary on the way. Find out what happened to famous Australian explorers Bourke and Wills and why they didn't get back! Do a trip down the river to do a bit of croc spotting or take a plane ride and catch all the action from the air. All tours can be arranged at Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park at no extra cost. Please remember to book early to avoid disappointment.
Recently a man coming from the beach with a bucket of fish was stopped by a fishing inspector. The inspector asked the man, "Do you have a license to fish?" The man replied to the inspector, "No sir. These are my pet fish and every day I take them down to the beach for a swim. When they are finished I whistle and they jump back in the bucket and I take them home." The inspector said. "That is rubbish! Fish can't do that!" The man looked at the inspector for awhile then said. "Ok, I will show you. It really works." So the inspector and the man go back to the beach and the man chucks the fish into the sea. After about 10 minutes nothing happens and so the inspector says. "Well, when are you going to call them back?" "Call who back?" the man asks. "The Fish." the inspector says. "What fish?" the man asked.
Oh! and have a good day!
