Sunset Caravan Park News
Edition 2.
By Arch Armstrong.

Hello folks and welcome to the 2nd addition of the Sunset Caravan Park news. The March addition is full of news with many things happening in Karumba and the Sunset Caravan Park, where the outback meets the sea. March has been full on. Lots of fish caught. Great weather. Very little rain (we could do with some) while the rest of Queensland seems to have had more than it's share. The birds are still here and the sunrises and sunsets are magnificent. So if it is great fishing, meeting new friends, just chilling out, catching mud-crabs the size of an average Mack Truck (and I'm not kidding on the crabs, take a look at the picture below and you will see what I mean.) or just taking life as it comes in one of the worlds last great retreats you had better get up here. But please book well ahead to avoid disappointment Check out the barramundi picture as well. Mates, it don't get better than this anywhere!!!

Fishing Competition.

April is now here and is the start of the big fishing competitions. The first one kicks off in Burketown. It is the 28th World Barramundi Competition and runs over Easter the 9th, 10th and 11th of April. On the 10th and 11th of April the Normanton Barra Classic is also on and then Karumba fishing competition is on April the 17th and 18th. One of the main organizers of the Karumba competition is the Sunset Tavern, ( the best hotel with the best view in the outback) with just about every other business in Karumba chipping in for prizes. Part of the prizes is the lucky nomination prize worth $7500 and there is plenty of other great prizes on offer for various sections of the competition It is going to be a fun time for the whole family. For the Karumba competition all nominations must be in by Friday the 16th and put in at the Sunset Tavern in Karumba between 10am and 10pm on the day. There will also be prizes for kids and lucky nomination prize for kids.

Famous woman croc shooter has died.

The famous North Queensland crocodile hunter Krys Pawlowski died recently at her home near Mareeba Nth Queensland. Mrs. Pawlowski in July 1957, shot what is still believed today to be the largest crocodile ever taken in the world, an estuarine crocodile 8.63 m long. Mrs. Pawlowski , 76, lived with her husband Ron, a celebrated hunter, movie maker and conservationist and Australia's first crocodile farmer. Between them in the 1950, they were legendary for shooting some 10,000 crocs between them. A very skilful shooter, Mrs Pawlowski had the nickname, One Shot Krys. She never needed a second shot. Not only was she a great shot, she starred in her husbands wildlife series, was a great cook, a taxidermist and conservationist and still found time to set up the first crocodile hatchery in Australia in 1965 showing the way for today's crocodile farming in this country. Eat your heart out Crocodile Dundee!!!! If you are passing through Hartley's creek on the way to Port Douglas, or on your way to Karumba and pass through Normanton, stop and have a look at the replica of the big croc Mrs Pawlowski shot and you will get some idea of what an amazing person this lady was.

Mrs. Pawlowski's Croc!
Any one care to stop for lunch!!!

Thought for the month

If you have friends, cherish them. If you don't have any go out and make some. Just remember, to make a friend you need to be a friend.

S. Remember I told you last month about Paddy's of Port Douglas. Well they have just celebrated St Patrick's day on the 17th of March. What a blast and what a great place to have a pint or two. Check out the Bangers and mash, the Irish Stew, the Guinness pie and the rest of the menu. Apart from a great taste the meals are huge. So take a doggy bag!! Don't forget to try the beers on tap. The Kilkenny is sensational!

Oh!! and have a great day!!
Regards
Arch Armstrong
