The waters of Karumba contain a variety of marine life; you can fish from the beach at high tide or from a boat at any time
Karumba is one of the most bountiful fishing spots Australian and overseas anglers like to visit. Visitors to this region frequently catch barramundi, jewfish and king salmon in the warmer months. Blue salmon, grunter, mud-crabs and bream are caught most of the year. In the winter months Spanish mackerel and queen fish are often caught. The barramundi season is from January to October, the exact time depends on when the fish spawn, so check as you make your booking.
Fishing at Karumba is easily achieved off the beach or out near the sand bars which surround the mouth of the Norman River. People with larger boats often head north or south along the coast to try their luck in the Brannigan, Fitzmorris, Bynoe or Flinders Rivers, while others prefer to fish off Pelican Island. ‘
