Tourist Attraction Karumba: Health and Wellbeing
Health & Wellbeing
Whilst Karumba may seem on a map to be a long way from the larger regional centres, the provision of medical, health and ‘well being’ services is exceptional.
At the forefront for the health and wellbeing of the Karumba community and our many visitors is the Queensland Health Clinic (for more information click here)
The area also falls within the Royal Flying Doctor Service area for emergencies and ancillary services throughout the year.
Locally we also have a pharmacy – chemist outlet which has a very well stocked plant nursery attached.
Sport & Recreation for fitness and fun includes the Karumba Recreation Club – Golf & Bowls, Karumba Sports Centre with outdoor tennis courts and indoor basketball and facilities, plus the town swimming pool.
A couple of local masseurs help keep tired muscles relax and those sore backs given some relief as well as yoga sessions, fitness groups and soon the introduction of significant walking tracks for the town. There are some locals who enjoy regular cycling along with the other favourite pastime of fishing.
Art & craft workshops are held at various times through the year and locals and visitors alike display their wares at the weekly Sunday markets – April through to September each year. Photography is another keen pastime a number of locals enjoy with some local and regional competitions throughout the year.
Karumba has several community parks and childrens playgrounds for family and friends to enjoy time together, relaxing in the wonderful Gulf environment. However, Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park is one of the best Park which offers variety of facilities and shinning star for
The Karumba Library and Visitor Information Centre is a great place to find a good book, learn more about the history and keep in touch through internet access.
Volunteering is part of many smaller communities social fabric – helping keep the community healthy and connected – and this is no different in Karumba. The Gulf Barramundi Restocking Association is a key organisation in the region, based at Karumba, and undertaking important work in breeding barramundi fingerlings for restocking the Gulf rivers and waterways. This organisation relies heavily on volunteers.
