The Caravan Park is located on the Gulf of Carpentaria in Tropical North Queensland commonly known as "Where the Outback meets the Sea". Summer ( Wet Season ) temperatures are hot and humid on the coast, the general range is 30 -35C ( 86 -95F ), higher temperatures occur in late spring ( November - December ) especially if the wet is late. Winter ( dry season ) temperatures are warm and less humid. The range is 25 -30C ( 77 -86F ).

This is the Monsoon season, known locally as the "Green Season" or the "Wet". There is frequent rainfall and high temperatures with high humidity. During this period the area surrounding Karumba turns to a tropical green and the migratory birdlife can be seen everywhere.

The condition of unsealed roads can change rapidly, dependent on rainfall. Minor delays may occur on sealed roads after rainfall due to flooding of low-level stream crossings.

A time of clear sunny days and very little rain. The countryside turns golden with warm days and cool to cold nights, especially in July and August. This season is known as "The Dry". If coming at this time of year we recommend that you book a site in advance as we are always busy!

Storm activity begins prior to the monsoon season. As the waterholes are refurbished, bird life begins to increase and the countryside starts to green. Road conditions are usually good, however, we still recommend that you check road conditions.

For the best part of the year, average daily temperatures throughout the Gulf are between 30°C and 35°C, shorts and light, cool, loose fitting tops are ideal. During the winter months, nighttime temperatures can drop so also pack a light sweater and jeans for those evenings in the Caravan Park at Karumba Point.

A good broad hat and sunglasses are a must, as are sturdy light boots. Remember that this is Tropical North Queensland and a SPF 15+ sunscreen is essential.

In late September to early November a peculiar cloud formation occurs. The Morning Glory is a series of long cigar shaped cloud formations that roll out of the Gulf in lines of three or four, usually in the early hours before daylight.

Occurring in only two places in the world, the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Gulf of Mexico, these multiple formations follow behind each other, accompanied by a violent wind called a 'shock wave'. The cloud itself does not travel much further than 60km inland but the wind has been registered as far south as Alice Springs. The appearance of these formations heralds the unstable and changeable weather of the build-up to the 'Wet'.
