Four years ago we spent a few nights there in Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park in late September and decided we’d love to return to the area. We were on our way out of Lawn Hill NP and had a camper trailer.

We have been back to Karumba Point for a couple of months (May /June) each year for the last three years with a caravan and we are going again this year…..but possibly only for a month(June) due family commitments. We will try to extend to July as well but it is very difficult to secure a booking on the same site at that time of year. The comment suggesting that it’s not worth the long haul unless “you are a beer swilling towards alcoholic fisherman” is garbage.

I am a casual fisherman and although I love a few beers (mid strength these days), I certainly don’t fit that description. We love the casual uncomplicated life style. My wife loves eating fish but hates fishing….though she does help me with cleaning and skinning. I don’t have a boat but there are always others looking for a “decky” . Tinnies are very popular but not essential. I have caught excellent bream near the boat ramp (100metres from the CP) and excellent salmon and a grunter off the airfield windsock (about a kilometre from the CP).

At first the place seems a bit “clicky” with many travellers going there year on year for decades…..but it depends a bit on your personality. You can break down any perceived barriers easily. The locals are very friendly and show a great hospitality (You will definitely like it and will love to come back, nobody would like to miss such a warm welcome).

It all depends on your needs, how old your kids are etc etc. All in all it’s a superb experience and highly recommended to visit Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park . We love it. I’d agree that if you and yours aren’t into fishing, then a few days may be all you’d need. Also good sunset shots and plenty of other photo opportunities. You should be OK for accommodation in October, November and December but check before by ring or email or try Online Booking facility.
